Jewish Federation hits funding mark
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles announced Sunday that it had raised an estimated $4.5 million as part of its 2008 Super Sunday fundraising drive, billed as the single largest fundraising day in the Los Angeles Jewish community.
The effort included more than 2,000 volunteers, including L.A. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky and City Council members Jack Weiss, Dennis Zine and Janice Hahn, said Deborah Dragon, spokeswoman for the federation.
The money will be used to fund social service agencies catering to Jews and non-Jews, according to a press release.
Two-thirds of the money will be used locally for legal services, addiction recovery, and career counseling, among other things, the release said.
The remaining third of the money will be spent in Israel and elsewhere to assist people “who face continuing terror attacks.”
