Tom Sleigh, a Brooklyn, N.Y., resident who teaches in the creative writing program at Hunter College in New York, has won the $100,000 Kingsley Tufts Poetry Award from Claremont Graduate University. The school said Monday it was honoring him for “Space Walk,” his seventh book of poetry, published by Houghton Mifflin last year.

Chosen to receive the $10,000 Kate Tufts Discovery Award was Janice N. Harrington for her first book of poetry, “Even the Hollow My Body Made Is Gone.”

The awards will be presented April 15 in a ceremony at the Coburn School in Los Angeles. The event is free and open to the public.
