Arizona State surprises Stanford

James Harden scored eight of his 23 points in overtime, and Arizona State rallied to defeat No. 7 Stanford, 72-68, Thursday night at Tempe, Ariz.

Arizona State, 16-7 overall, 6-5 Pacific 10 Conference, overcame a seven-point deficit in the final 1:49 of regulation to force overtime, and Harden scored the Sun Devils’ first eight points in extra time.

Mitch Johnson made a three-point basket with 33 seconds left in overtime to pull Stanford (20-4, 9-3) to within 69-68.

But the Cardinal missed several shots down the stretch, and the Sun Devils’ Derek Glasser made two free throws and Eric Boateng one to clinch the victory.

No. 21 Washington State 70, Oregon State 57 -- The Cougars (19-5, 7-5) eased past the Beavers (6-18, 0-12) at Corvallis, Ore., in handing them their 14th consecutive loss. The skid matches the 1995-96 team for the longest in school history.

Taylor Rochestie scored a career-high 24 points, and Derrick Low added 21 for Washington State, which entered the game holding opponents to 55.5 points a game, third best in the nation. The Cougars held the Beavers to 32.1% shooting.

Oregon 71, Washington 58 -- The Ducks (15-9, 6-6) had lost four of five before consecutive wins against California and now the Huskies (13-12, 4-8) by an average of 17.5 points.

In beating Washington at Eugene, Ore., the Ducks made 14 of 25 three-point shots, including six in the first 9:30 of the second half to turn a 33-27 halftime lead into a 56-38 lead.

Arizona 83, California 73 -- Freshman Jerryd Bayless scored 33 points to help the Wildcats (16-8, 6-5) beat the Golden Bears (14-9, 5-7) at Tucson for the 13th consecutive time since 1995.
