Fullerton loses two in a row for first time

Josh Akognon scored 30 points but couldn’t keep visiting Cal State Fullerton from losing consecutive games for the first time this season Thursday night with its 89-82 setback against Pacific.

Guards Chad Troyer and Steffan Johnson combined for 44 points, including 11-of-17 shooting from three-point range for Pacific.

Anthony Brown added 20 points and a game-high 14 rebounds for the Tigers, who matched last year’s victory total while improving to 12-5 overall and 3-1 in the Big West. Troyer, a transfer from Miami of Ohio, matched his career high with 24 points. Johnson scored 20.

Scott Cutley had 18 points and Frank Robinson had 17 for the Titans (10-6, 3-2).

Pacific led, 71-52, with 10:59 to play. Akognon made five of nine three-point attempts in the second half to help Fullerton make a game of it.

UC Davis 74, UC Irvine 57: David Carter had 19 points, seven rebounds and two assists to lead the Aggies (8-9, 2-2 Big West) past the Anteaters (7-10, 2-2).

Patrick Sanders led Irvine with 18 points.
