U.S. marshals arrest fugitive

A fugitive wanted on suspicion of kidnapping, raping and torturing his girlfriend early last year was arrested Thursday morning by U.S. marshals, authorities said Friday.

While wanted on those charges, officials said, Raul Carillo Alderete, 28, last month took his 11-month-old daughter from the North Hollywood home of his estranged wife, prompting a brief search by Los Angeles police until authorities determined that -- with no custody agreement between the couple -- he had committed no new crime. The girl was returned to relatives within a few days, said Pomona Police Lt. Alex Rilloraza.

Alderete had been featured on “America’s Most Wanted” shortly before the alleged incident with his daughter.

He was arrested outside a Riverside apartment building and is being held at Pomona City Jail on $4-million bail, Pomona Police Sgt. Jed Blair said.

Alderete was wanted for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend in February. In that case, authorities said he held her captive for a week and stabbed her more than 30 times with a screwdriver before she was able to escape.
