Ruling on training facility appealed
The city is appealing a judge’s decision to allow military contractor Blackwater Worldwide to open a counter-terrorism training facility along the Mexican border.
In a brief filed Thursday with the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, City Atty. Michael Aguirre argued that the city can demand a public review of the facility for Navy sailors, which includes an indoor firing range and a mock warship built out of cargo containers.
Classes began June 5 after a federal judge found that field inspectors had signed off on the necessary permits.
