Sergeant charged in Iraqis’ deaths
A Marine sergeant has been charged with manslaughter in the death of two Iraqi civilians, sources said.
The charges against Sgt. John Winnick, a sniper, involve the death of two civilians in Anbar province last year.
The case, revealed Thursday by the website of the North (San Diego) County Times, is the fifth accusing Marines at Camp Pendleton of killing civilians in Iraq.
Winnick has yet to have a preliminary hearing, which will allow the commanding general to decide whether to send the case to court martial.
