at Detroit 5, Chicago 1: Justin Verlander pitched a four-hitter for his third career complete game and Marcus Thames hit a three-run homer in the Tigers’ second straight win over the AL Central leaders. Verlander (3-9) didn’t walk a batter and struck out three. He threw 101 pitches in his best outing of the season.

at Oakland 8, New York 4: Jack Cust drove in three runs and the Athletics roughed up Darrell Rasner early and often. Cust hit a two-run single during a six-run third inning. Rasner (3-4) lost his fourth straight start. Justin Duchscherer (6-4) won for the third time in four starts and improved to 5-0 at the Coliseum.

Minnesota 8, at Cleveland 5: Justin Morneau drove in three runs and Jason Kubel hit a home run to help the Twins end a six-game losing streak. Indians catcher Victor Martinez left after one inning. The Indians announced that he has an inflamed right elbow. Martinez has battled a sore left hamstring since opening day.

Texas 11, at Kansas City 5: David Murphy hit two home runs, including his first career grand slam, and drove in a career-high five runs for the Rangers. Texas trailed, 5-1, after six innings, but sent 10 men to the plate in a seven-run seventh, tying its biggest inning this season.

Seattle 2, at Toronto 1: Raul Ibanez singled home the winning run in the ninth inning, Felix Hernandez (5-5) worked eight strong innings and the Mariners won a three-game road series for the first time since taking two of three at Tampa Bay, April 8-10.

at Boston 6, Baltimore 3: Bartolo Colon earned his 150th victory in the stadium where he earned his first in June 1997, and Jonathan Papelbon picked up his 19th save in 21 chances to remain unscored on in 17 2/3 innings against the Orioles.

at Angels 4, Tampa Bay 2: Scott Kazmir’s six-game win streak ended against the team he began it against.
