A man was killed and a 15-year-old boy seriously wounded when five suspected gang members started shooting at a graduation party in Anaheim, authorities said Saturday.

Miguel Reyes, 21, of Anaheim was found dead about 10:45 p.m. Friday in the backyard of a house in the 1800 block of West Cerritos Avenue, where he was attending a party with more than 50 other guests.

“We don’t believe he was a gang member,” said Sgt. Rick Martinez, a spokesman for the Anaheim Police Department. “He may have been the intended target or he may have gotten into a dispute with these guys after their arrival.”

Authorities declined to release the name of the boy, who was shot in the head during the altercation.

“We think he was an unintended victim,” Martinez said. “He just got in the way of the melee.”

Martinez said the youth, who was taken to a hospital, was expected to survive.

The shootings occurred just minutes after five uninvited males arrived at the party. They then fled along with most of the guests, Martinez said.
