at Colorado 7, New York Mets 1: Garrett Atkins and Brad Hawpe homered on Pedro Martinez’s first two pitches in the fifth inning, touching off a six-run rally. Troy Tulowitzki followed with a double. Ubaldo Jimenez singled to deep short and Willy Taveras hit a run-scoring single that gave the Rockies a 3-1 lead. Jeff Baker hit a run-scoring double off the right-field wall, and Matt Holliday hit a two-run single for a 6-1 lead.

Cincinnati 6, at New York Yankees 0: Daryl Thompson (Reds) and Ben Giese (Yankees) met in the first matchup of pitchers making their first major league starts at Yankee Stadium since Boston’s Tony Welzer faced New York’s Myles Thompson on April 22, 1926, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

at Chicago Cubs 11, Chicago White Sox 7: Jim Edmonds homered twice, Mike Fontenot went deep and Aramis Ramirez hit a three-run shot during a nine-run fourth inning.

St. Louis 9, at Boston 3: Troy Glaus hit a grand slam and the Cardinals roughed up Daisuke Matsuzaka in his return from the disabled list. Matsuzaka (8-1) yielded seven runs in one-plus inning.

at Tampa Bay 4, Houston 3: Pinch-hitter Gabe Gross doubled with the bases loaded, driving in two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning.

at Pittsburgh 6, Toronto 3: Jason Bay, Raul Chavez and Jose Bautista each hit two-run homers, helping the Pirates extend the Blue Jays’ season-high losing streak to seven games.

at Milwaukee 3, Baltimore 2: Seth McClung improved to 3-1 with a 2.55 earned-run average this month. The Brewers are 18-8 since he joined the rotation.

at Atlanta 5, Seattle 4: Greg Norton doubled home the tying run and then scored on Brian McCann’s single in the ninth inning. The Braves won for the first time in 30 games this season when trailing after eight innings.

Texas 13, at Washington 3: The Rangers scored seven runs in the seventh on a two-run single by Michael Young, run-scoring singles by Josh Hamilton and David Murphy, and a bases-loaded double by Vazquez. The seven runs equaled Texas’ biggest inning of the season.

at Kansas City 5, San Francisco 3: Gil Meche won consecutive starts for the first time this season. Meche, who lost his shutout in the sixth inning, yielded two runs -- one earned -- and three hits in 5 2/3 innings.

at Minnesota 6, Arizona 1: Joe Mauer started a six-run seventh inning with a surprise bunt single, and Justin Morneau followed with a run-scoring double.

Florida 6, at Oakland 4: Dan Uggla hit a tiebreaking three-run double with two out in the ninth inning. Cody Ross hit a tying solo homer with two out in the eighth.

Detroit 7, at San Diego 5: Marcus Thames’ two-run, pinch-hit homer in the seventh inning lifted the Tigers.

Cleveland 7, at Dodgers 2 (11 innings): The Indians were the only team Chan Ho Park had not faced since making his big league debut with the Dodgers in 1994.

Angels 6, at Philadelphia 2: Joe Saunders (11-3) is tied with Arizona’s Brandon Webb for the most wins in the majors.
