A kid with a crayon (or a rookie ESPN analyst who once tossed a chair across the floor) could fill out this bracket. On one side Kansas knocks Portland State port-side in the first round in Omaha, then strips Las Vegas in Round 2. Then, for the Jayhawks, it’s off to the Motor City, where there’s a fender bender against Clemson, which loses and then turns all attention to spring football.

On the other side, No. 2 Georgetown works its way by working through the United States Marine Corps (USMC). Check that, we’re now told that’s UMBC, an outfit out of Baltimore of the America East. Nickname is the Retrievers. Colors: Black, Gold & Red, but we digress. G-Town then faces No. 10 Davidson, which pulls off a minor upset over Gonzaga, once a tournament darling but now the at-large representative from a West Coast Conference that crowned the University of Shamu at San Diego as its champion.

Georgetown advances to face USC, winner of a second-round sandwich game over Wisconsin (Mayo and Cheese). Georgetown ekes out a win over USC because it has one player Trojan-land doesn’t -- a 7-foot-2 center named Roy Hibbert.

Kansas beats Georgetown to get to the Final Four -- not a big shock.

Love the selection committee’s sense of humor in setting up the first- and second-round pod in Omaha.

The first-rounder between USC and Kansas State features the battle of fabulous freshmen and soon-to-be NBA rookies: O.J. Mayo of USC vs. Michael Beasley of Kansas State.

A USC win coupled with an unlikely Cal State Fullerton first-round shocker (hey, it happened in 1978) would set up a second-round matchup that might be moved to Rosenblatt Stadium.

Although USC and Fullerton have never done much in basketball, the schools have combined to win 16 NCAA championships in baseball.

Fullerton’s mini-miracle hoops run in 1978 ended with a regional final defeat against Arkansas.

A year later, though, in Omaha, the Titans beat the Hogs to win their first of four NCAA baseball titles.
