Inmates at Orange County’s Men’s Central Jail have been placed on lockdown because of an April 29 fight involving several black and Latino inmates, a sheriff’s official said Monday.

The fight came just four days after the Sheriff’s Department lifted a previous lockdown that was the result of a fight that injured a dozen inmates in two dormitories at the Santa Ana Jail, said sheriff’s Capt. Roland Chacon.

The latest fighting broke out in a dining hall as inmates were being served meals. An unspecified number of inmates sustained minor injuries, but no one was hospitalized, Chacon said.

As a result of the latest fighting, inmates are being confined to their cells, denied family visits and outdoor exercise, and stripped of such privileges as watching television.

Chacon said he would lift the restrictions once tensions ease.
