Staff writer Mike Bresnahan ties up some loose ends before Lakers playoff games.
Q&A; of the day
Question: Does Kwame Brown also get a watch from Kobe Bryant? What’s the protocol in that situation?
-- Matt S.
Answer: Kobe Bryant’s generosity extended only to current teammates. The Lakers should, however, consider giving Brown a playoff share for his part in the Pau Gasol trade.
Best-case Lakers scenario
The Lakers play like they’re rested and ready. The Spurs look tired and fatigued. Game 1 is a blowout, and the Lakers have this stat on their side: Phil Jackson is 40-0 in series in which his teams win Game 1.
Worst-case Lakers scenario
The Lakers act like they’re more interested in the “American Idol” finale across the street at Nokia Theatre. Instead of Tim Duncan vs. Pau Gasol, Lakers fans become more interested in David Archuleta vs. David Cook.
I think he’s enjoying this immensely
Gasol talked about finally being busy in May after never winning a playoff game in six seasons with Memphis. “Usually I’ve been out for a month already,” he said. “I’d be on the beach getting a tan.”
Final thought
If the Lakers lose tonight, they might as well call it the end of their playoff run. If ever a team is ripe to be beaten, it’s the Spurs.
