In games involving Conference USA teams: Chase Clement threw for 372 yards and accounted for six touchdowns, and Rice (6-3, 5-1) matched its best conference record in nearly half a century with a 49-44 win over host Texas El Paso (3-5, 3-2). Rice clinched bowl eligibility for the second time in three seasons. Not since 1960 have the Owls been 5-1 in conference play. . . . Austin Davis scored five rushing touchdowns and threw for another score to lead Southern Mississippi (3-6, 2-4) to a 70-14 victory over Alabama Birmingham (2-7, 1-4) at Hattiesburg, Miss.

In games involving Mid-American Conference teams: Tyler Sheehan threw two touchdown passes and ran for another for host Bowling Green (4-5, 2-3) in a 45-30 victory over Kent State (2-7, 1-4). . . . Tim Hiller passed for 339 yards and three touchdowns for Western Michigan (7-2, 5-1) in a 31-10 victory over Eastern Michigan (2-8, 1-5) at Kalamazoo, Mich. Hiller became the third Western Michigan quarterback to pass for more than 7,000 career yards (7,211). . . . Navy (6-3) rallied from a 20-point deficit in the final 14 minutes, then used a one-yard touchdown run by backup quarterback Ricky Dobbs in the first overtime for a 33-27 victory over mistake-prone Temple (3-6) at Annapolis, Md. Two crucial miscues cost Temple. Navy scored the tying touchdown on the return of a fumble by Owls running back Kee-ayre Griffin with 37 seconds left, and Temple tight end Steve Maneri dropped a fourth-down pass in the end zone during overtime.

Elsewhere: Giovanni Vizza threw four touchdown passes to lead North Texas (1-8, 1-4 Sun Belt) to a 51-40 win over Western Kentucky (2-7, 0-2) at Bowling Green, Ky. . . . Trey Revell threw a seven-yard touchdown pass to J.J. McCoy with 34 seconds left to lift Louisiana Monroe (3-6, 2-3 Sun Belt) to a 31-30 win over Troy (5-3, 4-1) at Monroe, La.
