Brigham Young 82, at Pepperdine 53: Jonathan Tavernari had 17 points and 10 rebounds and Jimmer Fredette added 16 points for the Cougars (2-0), who never trailed in the game. The Waves (1-2) closed within nine points with 13:23 left, but BYU responded with a 10-0 run. Keion Bell had nine points, seven rebounds and five assists for Pepperdine.

at Stanford 103, Cal State Northridge 85: Anthony Goods scored 15 of his 25 points in the first half and the Cardinal (2-0) won its home opener. Landry Fields added 18 points and Lawrence Hill and Josh Owens had 14 each for Stanford. Josh Jenkins made his first five shots in each half and finished with 24 points for the Matadors (1-1).

at Riverside 61, Sacramento State 49: Brandon Dowdy scored 14 points for the Highlanders (1-1), who converted 23 turnovers by the Hornets (0-2) into 22 points. Riverside trailed only once at 2-0 and won despite being outshot, 54% to 46%.

at UCLA 66, Pepperdine 55: Senior forward Chinyere Ibekwe had 15 points and a career-high 15 rebounds as the Bruins improved to 2-0 for first-year Coach Nikki Caldwell. Ibekwe made seven of eight shots. Sophomore forward Nina Earl added 14 points. The Waves (1-1) got 16 points from freshman guard Jazmine Jackson.
