The chase is on Henry arrested in alleged drug deal

Former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry has been arrested following an alleged cocaine deal, the Drug Enforcement Administration said Wednesday.

Henry and James Mack were arrested a day earlier after the two met to buy cocaine from a person who was cooperating with authorities, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Mack and Henry were in federal custody on suspicion of knowingly and intentionally conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.

Henry was released from the Broncos on June 2.

Serena’s loss will cost her No. 1 ranking

Serena Williams’ game collapsed after she swept the first set at Stuttgart, Germany, leading to a 0-6, 6-1, 6-4 loss to China’s Li Na that will cost her the No. 1 ranking.

By dropping the second-round match at the Porsche Grand Prix, Williams will be overtaken by Jelena Jankovic in Monday’s new rankings, the WTA said.

Defending champion David Ferrer beat Jesse Levine, 6-4, 4-6, 6-1, at the Japan Open in Tokyo, and second-seeded Andy Roddick joined the Spaniard in the third round by defeating Ivo Minar, 7-6 (11), 6-7 (4), 7-6 (2).

Roger Federer has withdrawn from next week’s Stockholm Open, saying he needs to rest before starting his quest to reclaim the top spot in the world rankings.

Sparks’ Parker is expected to be rookie of the year

Sparks forward Candace Parker is expected to be named WNBA rookie of the year today. Parker averaged 18.5 points during the regular season, which was fourth-best in the league, a league-best 9.5 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, which was second best behind teammate Lisa Leslie.

Pronger’s goal lifts Ducks to win over Kings

Chris Pronger scored off an assist from Teemu Selanne with 1 minute 56 seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Ducks to a 3-2 exhibition victory over the Kings at the Honda Center.

Pronger also scored in regulation and teammate Chris Kunitz had the other goal, tying the score, 2-2, in the second period. Michal Handzus and Brian Boyle scored second-period goals for the Kings.

Liverpool, Barcelona win in Champions League

Robbie Keane scored his first Liverpool goal in a 3-1 home victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

The win gives Liverpool a perfect six points after two games in Group D. PSV is still without a point.

Also in the Champions League, Lionel Messi scored two late goals to give FC Barcelona a 2-1 victory at Shakhtar Donetsk. AS Roma escaped by rallying to a 3-1 victory at Bordeaux.

Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes will be out for up to 10 weeks after suffering medial ligament damage in the team’s Champions League victory at Aalborg on Tuesday.

D.C. United forward Jaime Moreno will be suspended for two games for a blow to an opposing player’s head Sunday against FC Dallas.

Rusty Wallace denies he’s considering comeback

Rusty Wallace denied a report by his brother that claims he is considering a return to NASCAR’s Sprint Cup Series. Kenny Wallace wrote in his SpeedTv.com blog that the 52-year-old former Cup champion is pondering a return.

Joey Logano will stop driving Sprint Cup Series races this season for Hall of Fame Racing. The 18-year-old phenom is set to replace Tony Stewart in Joe Gibbs Racing’s flagship No. 20 next season.

French agency issues challenge to Armstrong

The French anti-doping authority has thrown down a challenge to seven-time Tour de France champion Lance Armstrong, proposing he agree to retesting of his 1999 urine samples to see whether a French newspaper was right when it reported they contained traces of EPO, a banned blood-boosting hormone that enhances endurance.

In a statement, the agency headed by Pierre Bodry proposed the rider “prove his good faith” by agreeing to retesting of his samples from the 1999 Tour.

Armstrong responded in a statement.

“Unfortunately, Mr. Bodry is new to these issues and his proposal is based on a fundamental failure to understand the facts,” Armstrong said.

Oscar De La Hoya said that he wants to fight at least a couple of more times after taking on Manny Pacquiao on Dec. 6 in Las Vegas.

“There’s no doubt about it. My mind can still do it, my body can still do it,” said De La Hoya said in New York, on the first stop of a promotional tour. “I’m going to ride the wave for a little while.”
