Sharp focus

THE LOS ANGELES design firm Artecnica, known for its innovative lighting and accessories, celebrated the opening of its mini-showroom last week with an appearance by Tord Boontje. The Dutch designer, known for his nature-inspired motifs, premiered additions to his Transglass line for Artecnica: hand-cut sculptural mirrors with geometric patterns called the Dog Head ($2,200) and Star Mosaic ($3,400). Boontje also worked with Guatemalan wood carvers to produce the Witches’ Kitchen Utensils, which include a pair of Extra Hands for tossing salads ($330). A set of six culinary accouterments ($770) consists of the Point fork, a tasting and serving spoon, a fork and tasting spoon combination with the Dr. Seussian name Spurk, a fork and ladling spoon called a Floon, a dagger and a spoon-spatula (not shown).
