Orange County hotel and real estate developer Hadi Makarechian, 60, has been appointed to the UC Board of Regents, according to a statement released Friday by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s office.

Before his recent retirement, Makarechian had been chairman of Capital Pacific Holdings, a company he founded in 1991. A Republican, he has been a major contributor to the governor’s campaigns.

The governor also announced two other higher education appointments, both to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.

Both are Republicans.
