Milberg lawyers are sentenced
David Bershad and Steven Schulman, former Milberg law firm partners who pleaded guilty last year to illegally paying clients kickbacks in securities-fraud lawsuits, were sentenced to six months in prison.
U.S. District Judge John Walter in Los Angeles rejected the government’s request for a longer prison sentence for Schulman than he gave Bershad earlier in the day. Prosecutors had sought three months for Bershad, who was the first to plead and cooperate, and 12 months for Schulman. Both were ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.
