Re “Big plans at the escuela,” Sept. 4

I think it’s wonderful that children learn multiple languages. In fact, my children speak three languages.

However, I disagree with Aldama Elementary School’s experiment with dual languages. There are so many children in L.A .Unified who barely speak English as it is. I fail to see how a dual-language program will improve their English.

Yolie Flores Aguilar, a school board member, claims that this is to prepare our children for a global economy. She must be joking. If she really wants to prepare them for the future, they should be learning Chinese, not Spanish, as a second language.
