at Cincinnati 4, Chicago 3: Jolbert Cabrera hit a run-scoring single against closer Kerry Wood (4-4) to complete the Reds’ three-run ninth inning.

San Diego 10, at Milwaukee 1: Chris Young (5-5) came within four outs of a perfect game, retiring the first 23 Brewers in order before Gabe Kapler hit a home run. Chase Headley hit his ninth home run and Kevin Kouzmanoff hit his 21st for the Padres.

Houston 7, at Colorado 5: Pinch-hitters Darin Erstad and David Newhan had consecutive run-scoring hits in the eighth inning for the Astros, who have won 10 of 11. Newhan’s triple to center field gave Houston a 6-5 lead.

at St. Louis 3, Florida 1: Albert Pujols hit a two-run home run and Adam Wainwright (9-3) gave up six hits and struck out six in eight innings. Mike Jacobs hit his 30th home run for the Marlins.

Washington 7, at Atlanta 4 (14 innings): Elijah Dukes’ three-run double in the 14th inning lifted the Nationals.

at San Francisco 11, Pittsburgh 6: Pablo Sandoval finished with five runs batted in for the Giants. The Pirates are assured of a record-tying 16th consecutive losing season.

Philadelphia 6-3, at New York 2-6: Jamie Moyer (13-7) shut down the Mets on two infield singles over seven innings in the first game, but Carlos Delgado hit two home runs in the second game to give the Mets a split.

at Dodgers 5, Arizona 3: James Loney drove in three runs and the first-place Dodgers completed a three-game sweep to take a 1 1/2 -game lead in the NL West.
