* at Philadelphia 6, Atlanta 2: Pat Burrell hit a three-run home run in the eighth inning and the East-leading Phillies won for the 10th time in 11 games. The win, combined with the Mets’ loss to the Cubs, reduced the Phillies’ magic number for clinching their second straight division title to four. Braves third baseman Chipper Jones wasn’t in the starting lineup for the third straight game because of right shoulder inflammation. He singled as a pinch-hitter in the ninth.

* Chicago 9, at New York 5: Jason Marquis became the second pitcher to hit a grand slam against the Mets this season, and the Cubs clinched home-field advantage throughout the NL playoffs. Struggling to avoid another late collapse, the Mets slipped 2 1/2 games behind first-place Philadelphia in the East and had their wild-card lead cut to one game over idle Milwaukee.

* at Cincinnati 7, Florida 5: Joey Votto homered and doubled, helping the Reds rally from a four-run deficit.

* Arizona 4, at St. Louis 2: Brandon Webb got his 22nd win and Stephen Drew homered to help the Diamondbacks close to within two games of the Dodgers.
