Is Mencia racist or stand-up guy?

Lorenza Munoz does not speak for all parents of Santa Monica students. I could not disagree more with her reasoning.

It is outrageous to allow racist language to be used on any of our public school campuses under the ploy that money raised from atrocious stereotypes is needed to educate our children. We work to prevent such foul language from being tolerated in our schools and community, and then sell tickets at night to hear it on the same school campus where it is forbidden.

How low is Munoz willing to go to raise money for education? I applaud the school district for respecting all cultures and all students.

Like Munoz, I volunteer with a group of caring people whose service depends on donations, charity and other acts of public kindness. And as long as this is the case, we will embrace generous offers from people like Carlos Mencia, who has aided us in raising money for our group.

Mencia makes people laugh, in much the same way that Dave Chappelle and Bill Maher do. I fully understand that his comedy is not one-size-fits-all. But he never performs with malice, and he has clearly demonstrated his desire to give back to the community.

Especially in these difficult financial times, I applaud Mencia and others like him who make the honest effort to not only be a stand-up comic but a stand-up citizen. I, for one, am sincerely grateful.
