A tentative contract agreement was reached Sunday evening between Bay Area Rapid Transit managers and union officials, averting a strike that would have stranded 340,000 riders today.
The union, which represents about 900 station agents and train operators, called off the action after negotiations over the weekend.
BART officials said the agreement would allow the agency to reach its financial goals.
BART had hoped to save $100,000 in labor costs over the next four years.
