Man to plead guilty in Erin Andrews case

An Illinois insurance executive agreed to plead guilty to interstate stalking after secretly making nude videos of ESPN reporter Erin Andrews, according to court documents filed Thursday and first obtained by the Associated Press.

Michael Barrett, 48, of Westmont, Ill., will plead guilty in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles on Tuesday, said Thom Mrozek, a spokesman with the U.S. attorney’s office.

Barrett is suspected of renting hotel rooms adjacent to Andrews in three cities last year, altering the peepholes and shooting videos of Andrews in two of the locations.

Barrett could face up to five years in federal prison and a fine of $250,000.

Harden, Rangers complete contract

Rich Harden and the Texas Rangers completed a one-year contract that guarantees the right-hander $7.5 million.

The deal calls for a $6.5-million salary next year and includes an $11.5-million mutual option for 2011 with a $1-million buyout. Harden can earn an additional $250,000 next year in performance bonuses.

The Washington Nationals say there will be a news conference at their stadium today, when they’re expected to announce the signing of free-agent catcher Ivan Rodriguez, who agreed this week to a $6-million, two-year contract, pending a physical. . . . Reliever Brandon Lyon reached a preliminary agreement with the Houston Astros on a $15-million, three-year contract, a person familiar with the negotiations said. The Astros also landed a new third baseman, agreeing to a $4.5-million, one-year contract with Pedro Feliz.

Players deny they made remarks

Two golfers quoted by a weekly magazine as making disparaging remarks about Tiger Woods and his marriage said they never spoke to the publication.

In a story that Life & Style posted on its website, Ben Crane is quoted as saying Woods is a “phony and a fake” and that Woods’ wife knew about allegations of extramarital affairs.

It also quotes Charles Warren as saying Woods’ wife “had stars in her eyes and maybe dollar signs too” and should leave him.

The magazine said in a statement it was investigating.

Tax issues sour Pacquiao on L.A.

The U.S. business advisor for Manny Pacquiao said the Filipino boxing star would “prefer not” to have his likely mega-fight versus Floyd Mayweather Jr. at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The business advisor, Michael Koncz, said he and a Pacquiao accountant estimate the boxer would owe a California tax bill of $3.5 million to $5 million.

Koncz said without assurances that Pacquiao’s tax bill would be paid with a larger total purse, “Manny doesn’t want to fight in California,” when the alternatives are no state taxes if the bout were fought in Nevada or Texas.

Referees’ spokesman calls Donaghy a liar

The lead negotiator and spokesman for the NBA’s referees says Tim Donaghy made threats against him, and says the disgraced former official’s accusations about his colleagues shouldn’t be believed because he is a “compulsive liar.”

Lamell McMorris also says this was a difficult week for the referees union, with Donaghy’s appearing on “60 Minutes” and ESPN. McMorris said in a statement that all officials cooperated in both league and federal investigations that found no criminal activity by anyone other than Donaghy, who admitted betting on games he officiated.

Donovan in talks with Everton

Galaxy star Landon Donovan is in talks about playing for Everton in England’s Premier League on a loan deal. But the Galaxy said that Everton is only “one of a number of clubs who have contacted the Galaxy about the possibility of a short-term loan agreement for Landon.”
