Antidote to gloom: glamour

Share

The economy might be as dicey as a craps table, but California designers exhibiting at the Las Vegas World Market Center were still betting on Hollywood glamour. White lacquer, gold leaf, silk, sumptuous leather and velvet studded with sequins and crystals were signatures of furniture companies clearly convinced that the look won’t be fading anytime soon. Haute House added Ed Hardy-style tattoo prints and glittering peacock decoration to classic French upholstery, and English chairs got a vibrant update in florals and stripes by textile designer William Steger. Despite the times, or perhaps because of them, the San Clemente firm Shine offered a boho-chic blue silk ikat pillow called Clover with Swarovski crystals in a quatrefoil ($665). It’s shown here with the Auggie dog bed, equipped with cast-aluminum bergere legs and a Regency-inspired cushion upholstered in tweed -- and more crystals ($950).
