A truly sorry excuse

Alex Rodriguez is smart enough to understand and sign a $252-million contract, plus endorsements. But he doesn’t know what substances he used?

Now that’s a first-ballot Hall of Fame liar.

Bud Selig is more responsible for steroid abuse than Mark McGwire, Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens, Alex Rodriguez or the union. It was his job to police baseball to see that rules were enforced and he failed to do so. The commissioner is complicit in every positive steroid test.

Until he acknowledges his own blame in the matter, I have no respect for any of the blame he places on A-Rod or any other player.

What baseball really needs is for Congress to once again drag Donald Fehr’s sorry butt before the cameras and hold him accountable to baseball fans across this country for his years of covering up a cancer on Major League Baseball.

The venerable Journalist Bill has some wonderful, innovative suggestions as to how baseball can “man up” in the wake of the Alex Rodriguez steroid revelations. However, if he thinks that there is any chance of even one of these suggestions actually being implemented, then it’s clear that the good Mr. Dwyre is in the fast lane of the Leonard Tose Highway.

After reading Bill Dwyre’s column where he thinks the names of the rest of the 103 players who tested positive should be released even though they were promised confidentiality, I think we should take it a step further.

1. Tear up the Constitution.

2. Start up the McCarthy hearings again.

3. Bring back segregation.

4. Appoint Curt Schilling as chief justice of the Supreme Court.
