‘Razzies’ for Myers, Hilton

Share

“The Love Guru,” after bombing at the box office last summer, had insult added to those injuries Saturday as the Mike Myers comedy was crowned worst film of 2008 at the Golden Raspberry Awards, the annual tongue-in-cheek event that plays counterpoint to the Oscars by celebrating the cheesiest of what Hollywood has to offer.

But wouldn’t you know it? Myers couldn’t even reign supreme there without professional celebrity Paris Hilton shouldering in on the action.

While Myers was (dis)honored with Razzies for worst actor and worst screenplay (with Graham Gordy), Hilton stole the limelight by grabbing three: as worst actress for “The Hottie & the Nottie,” as worst supporting actress for “Repo! The Genetic Opera” and as part of the worst screen couple (with either Christine Lakin or Joel David Moore, take your pick) in “The Hottie & the Nottie.”

Ex-James Bond star Pierce Brosnan got shot down for exercising his musical chops in “Mamma Mia!,” earning the worst supporting actor nod; “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” was selected worst prequel, remake, rip-off or sequel; and Uwe Boll not only was named worst director (for “1968: Tunnel Rats,” “In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale” and “Postal”) but also received a worst career achievement award that dubbed him “Germany’s answer to Ed Wood” -- a reference to the director of such classic film oddities as “Plan 9 From Outer Space” and “Glen or Glenda?”

The 29th edition of the Razzies, at the Barnsdall Gallery Theatre in Hollywood, was presented by Golden Raspberry founder John Wilson, based on ballots sent to about 650 film professionals, journalists and fans.
