Yankees rout Rangers, take over AL’s best record
at New York 12, Texas 3: Hideki Matsui and Jorge Posada hit three-run homers and the Yankees (31-21) took over the best record in the American League. Shortstop Derek Jeter became the fourth active player, and the fourth in Yankees history, to score 1,500 runs.
at Tampa Bay 6, Kansas City 2: Matt Joyce hit a tiebreaking two-run double and had a two-run homer, and Andy Sonnanstine gave up two runs in 6 2/3 innings. Ben Zobrist also homered for the Rays, who won for only the third time in nine games.
at Minnesota 4, Cleveland 3: Joe Mauer homered and had three RBIs to help Kevin Slowey (8-1) win his fourth straight start.
Oakland 5, at Chicago 0: Vin Mazzaro pitched into the seventh inning to win his major league debut and Matt Holliday hit a three-run double to lead the Athletics past the White Sox. Mazzaro gave up three hits and walked four in 6 1/3 innings.
at Seattle 8, Baltimore 2: Erik Bedard pitches 6 1/3 effective innings to beat his former team, and Ken Griffey Jr. hit career home run No. 616.
at Toronto 6, Angels 4: Roy Halladay (9-1) struck out a career-high 14 and pitched a seven-hitter for his major league-leading ninth win.
