La Sierra’s Wyatt shatters national record

CLOVIS, CALIF — Reggie Wyatt didn’t need to see the official results Friday night to know he had broken the national high school record in the boys’ 300-meter hurdles.
The USC-bound senior from Riverside La Sierra held both arms aloft in triumph after finishing his preliminary heat in 35.02 seconds in the state track meet at Clovis Buchanan High.
“With the crowd cheering and everything, I knew I had it,” said Wyatt, who took a victory lap after obliterating the record of 35.28 seconds set by Woodland Hills Taft’s Jeshua Anderson in 2007.
Wyatt said there was no pressure to break his record in tonight’s championship.
“Tomorrow I’m just going to have fun,” he said. “I wouldn’t care if I got last.”
