Update: Having seen its 10-game unbeaten streak end with a loss to Real Salt Lake last weekend, the Galaxy should be able to start a new one today against San Jose. The Earthquakes have won only once in their last 12 games and are mired in last place in the Western Conference. San Jose will be without midfielder Simon Elliott, who is playing for New Zealand at the Confederations Cup in South Africa, but is boosted by the return of high-scoring forward Darren Huckerby, who had been out because of an injury for a couple of months. “For us to be a good team, he needs to be on the field,” said San Jose Coach Frank Yallop. The Galaxy will be minus leading scorer Landon Donovan, also at the Confederations Cup, and defender Eddie Lewis, who is suspended after receiving a red card in the loss to Real Salt Lake. “I just think, in all fairness, the better team won,” Galaxy Coach Bruce Arena said of the streak-ending defeat.
