Lack of evidence

Is it just me, or do other Lakers fans fear that the Andrew Bynum Era could be painfully short? In his brief tenure, Bynum has already been injured twice: once seriously, once catastrophically. Grim as the prospect is, this guy could be injury prone. He could be cursed. One has to wonder if he’ll ever be able to play the 70-75 games a season the Lakers have planned for him.

Although it was there for the taking, Mark Heisler, in his March 11 article on LeBron James, never got around to saying it: Cleveland, in not trading for Shaq, lost its chance to win the NBA title going away. As Heisler pointed out, neither Bryant nor Wade have won a title without O’Neal playing alongside him. O’Neal may not be what he once was, but his recent outburst showed that for at least short stretches of time he still has what it takes to be the dominant center in the game. Having to decide whom to double-team with Shaq and James on the same team might even have brought Jackson out of his Zen-like state.

Who do the Lakers or the Celtics have who is going to push Shaq out of the lane? Bynum is still a babe in arms. The biggest break the Lakers and Celtics may have caught this year is the trade that wasn’t made.
