Fire near Anaheim Hills nearly contained
Firefighters nearly encircled a wildfire near Anaheim Hills on Wednesday night, but will still beef up units during the Thanksgiving weekend because of the warm weather forecast.
The blaze, which broke out Tuesday night near the 241 toll road, was 90% contained Wednesday night, with full containment expected today, the Orange County Fire Authority said.
The wind-whipped fire charred 80 acres on the east side of the tollway near Windy Ridge Road. The cause was under investigation.
Ground crews, aided by water-dropping helicopters, were able to stop the flames from burning toward populated areas. The fire authority will be staffing each 24-hour shift through Monday with 11 additional firefighters, two water tankers and an on-call incident management team.
Northeast winds of up to 45 mph and low relative humidity across much of Southern California were expected to continue through today, the National Weather Service said.
