Stoll’s two goals lift Kings to victory

Jarret Stoll’s timing was perfect.

Stoll scored his first goals of the season, twice giving the lead to the Kings, who went on to beat the Phoenix Coyotes, 5-3, on Saturday night.

“Very timely goals,” Stoll said. “That was the story of the game.”

Stoll broke a 2-2 tie when he took a pass from Scott Parse in the low left slot, faked Ilya Bryzgalov to the ice with a backhand move and pulled the puck across for a forehand shot into the open right side of the net with 17:44 to go.

Parse had taken the puck from Coyotes defenseman Keith Yandle just outside the Phoenix zone.

Stoll’s first goal, with four seconds left on the Kings’ second two-man advantage of the second period, gave the Kings a 2-1 lead at 14:24.

“The five-on-three helped,” Stoll said.

“We can be a little sharper on it. It took us a little while to figure it out, the first minute or so, but we got the goal which was the important thing,” he continued.

Dustin Brown also scored twice, Wayne Simmonds added a goal and Anze Kopitar had three assists to help the Kings win their third straight game.

“I really like the way our team adjusted in several different areas of our game,” said Coach Terry Murray.

“It was an attitude to want the puck, to want to make plays and to hold on to the puck. We started doing that more the middle of last season but started getting away from it a little bit.”

The Kings lost in the season opener to Phoenix, 6-3.
