Oklahoma loses tight end Gresham

Oklahoma tight end Jermaine Gresham will sit out the rest of the season after having surgery to repair torn cartilage in his right knee.

Coach Bob Stoops said doctors determined during an arthroscopic surgery Tuesday that they needed to stitch together the cartilage in Gresham’s knee. Stoops said Gresham will need five months to recover.

The 13th-ranked Sooners are already reeling from the loss of Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Sam Bradford, who sprained his shoulder in a 14-13 loss to Brigham Young and will be out at least two weeks.

Florida loses Debose for season

Florida freshman receiver Andre Debose will have season-ending surgery to repair a torn hamstring. Coach Urban Meyer announced Debose’s decision after practice Tuesday night.

Meyer had tabbed the 5-foot-11, 185-pound speedster as Percy Harvin’s replacement this fall. But Debose injured his hamstring at the Florida state high school track meet in April, tweaked it during summer workouts and injured it again on the first day of fall practice.

Doctors initially thought it was only a pulled muscle, but tests revealed a partial tear. Debose had been weighing his options for two weeks.

Notre Dame’s Aldridge to sit

Notre Dame fullback James Aldridge will sit out Saturday’s game against Michigan because of a sprained right shoulder.

Coach Charlie Weis said Aldridge will be questionable to doubtful for the following week’s game against Michigan State.

Aldridge was injured in the second half last week as the 18th-ranked Irish beat Nevada, 35-0. Aldridge had three carries for 13 yards.
