CALIFORNIA BRIEFING / HESPERIA
A man who fired a shotgun inside his home and then at authorities was killed early Tuesday by deputies, officials said.
San Bernardino County sheriff’s deputies responded about 6:30 a.m. after receiving a call from a woman who said her 32-year-old son had failed to take his medication and was firing shots inside the home, according to the department.
The gunman began firing in the direction of the deputies after they arrived, authorities said.
Armed with a shotgun, the man went outside and allegedly refused to comply with the deputies’ commands.
“The deputies, fearing for their safety and the safety of others, fired their duty weapons, striking the suspect,” the department said in a news release.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
