Redskins’ Albert Haynesworth meets with Coach Mike Shanahan

Washington Redskins Coach Mike Shanahan met with Albert Haynesworth on Monday and kept the conversation to himself, saying it’s “completely ridiculous” to keep talking about it publicly.

“To keep on talking about things outside of football to me is completely ridiculous,” Shanahan said. “I did have a conversation with him. If you want to talk about football, we’ll talk about football.”

So Shanahan gave no response to the strong words uttered by the disgruntled nose tackle following Saturday’s loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Haynesworth accused the coach of mischaracterizing the reason he missed practice last week and said he would stay away from the Redskins’ off-season workout program again next year.

Reports say Haynesworth was suffering from a muscle condition called rhabdomyolysis, but Shanahan told AOL Fanhouse on Sunday that he was “not aware of that.” Shanahan had given various reasons for Haynesworth’s inability to practice, eventually attributing it to a headache.

Haynesworth was at practice Monday but did not talk to reporters.

Eli Manning back

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning returned to practice a week after suffering a 12-stitch gash in his forehead against the New York Jets.

Manning, who sat out Saturday’s exhibition against the Pittsburgh Steelers, wore a baseball cap while taking snaps Monday. But he said he will wear a helmet Wednesday, and intends to play Saturday in the team’s next-to-last preseason game against the Ravens.

Etc.

The Dallas Cowboys said they won’t play free safety Gerald Sensabaugh the rest of this preseason, and probably will sit inside linebacker Keith Brooking; both suffered shoulder injuries Saturday against San Diego. . . . The New Orleans Saints waived running back P.J. Hill, a promising second-year pro out of Wisconsin, and are expected to put him on injured reserve because of a partial triceps tear that will sideline him for the season. . . . The St. Louis Rams officially named Sam Bradford, the No. 1 overall draft pick, to start at quarterback Thursday against New England in place of A.J. Feeley, who has a thumb injury. . . . The Chicago Bears signed 38-year-old Todd Collins to a one-year contract as a backup quarterback. . . . The Buffalo Bills signed free agent J.P. Foschi, doubling the number of healthy tight ends in camp to two, Foschi and Jonathan Stupar. . . . The New York Jets put defensive end Ropati Pitoitua on injured reserve with a torn Achilles’ tendon.
