White Sox reportedly win claim on Manny Ramirez

Has a team stepped up and claimed Manny Ramirez?

And if so, what do the Dodgers do now?

ESPN’s Jayson Stark has tweeted the White Sox were awarded the claim.

Another report from mlb.com’s T.R. Sullivan said the Rangers put in a claim but lost out to another team, presumably the White Sox. The Rays were also thought to have made a claim.

The Dodgers can now either let Manny, and the approximately $4 million he’s still owed this season, go to the claiming team or pull him back and try to negotiate a trade with that team.

The Dodgers are playing just well enough at the moment, however, that they may have forced the organization to keep him. The Dodgers have an imposing four teams to climb over, but are only five games back for the National League wild-card spot.

If they let him go, or even work a trade, how can they claim to be trying to win and advance to the postseason? They’ve almost been boxed in by their own erratic play.

The Chicago Sun-Times previously reported the Dodgers and White Sox were discussing a potential trade for Manny in anticipation that Chicago would win the claim.
