For the twice-defending NBA champions and three-time defending West champions, life is getting complicated.

The Spurs, who had gone from old to older, are revitalized with Richard Jefferson, who arrived last season but didn’t pick up the system until this one, and rising players like George Hill, DeJuan Blair, Gary Neal and Tiago Splitter.

The big noise is still their Big Three, Manu Ginobili, Tony Parker and Tim Duncan, all healthy for the first time in years, with Ginobili starting and showing how good he was all this time.

Although the Lakers played more road games, their early schedule was even easier than last season, having played only one of the six winningest teams — No. 6 Utah, which beat them.

So this is where the defense starts in earnest.
