Dennis Hopper exhibit: An article in Saturday’s Calendar section on an exhibit of the artwork of the late actor Dennis Hopper said that Jeffrey Deitch, the director of the Museum of Contemporary Art, where the exhibit is being held, became the godfather of Hopper’s son Henry. Julian Schnabel, the curator of the exhibit, is Henry’s godfather.

L.A. crime: A headline on an article in Friday’s LATExtra section about the number of violent crimes in Los Angeles and L.A. County during the first half of 2010 said that L.A. County saw an uptick in homicides during the period. L.A. County reported a 17% drop in slayings over the same period last year. The city of Los Angeles had a 3% rise in homicides during the same period.

Justin Tanner: An article in Sunday’s Arts and Book section about playwright Justin Tanner refers to an actor who appeared in Tanner’s play “Voice Lessons” as French Smith. His name is French Stewart.

Stephen Strasburg: Bill Plaschke’s July 4 Sports column suggesting that the Washington Nationals’ rookie pitcher Stephen Strasburg should be named to the All-Star team said no American League hitter has ever seen him. Strasburg has faced three AL teams this season and has a 1-1 record with one no-decision in those games: the Cleveland Indians (a 9-4 win), the Chicago White Sox (no decision) and the Kansas City Royals (a 1-0 loss).

Michael Steele: An article published in the July 4 Section A concerning criticism of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele reported that a club where Republican Party funds were spent is in Hollywood. The club, Voyeur, is in West Hollywood.

Tibetan genes: A July 4 article in Section A about a gene that helps Tibetans live at high temperatures said that the Tibetan and Han Chinese populations were calculated to have separated 3,000 years ago. In a quote, this time span was equated to about 40 human generations. Assuming that a human generation is about 20 years, the number of generations should have been about 150.

World Cup: An article in the July 4 Sports section about Spain’s defeat of Paraguay said that Spain had been in 10 World Cups since 1950. In fact, Spain has been in the tournament 12 times during that period.

World War II airmen: A National Briefing item in the July 4 Section A, about the remains of seven servicemen who fought in World War II, said the men were members of the Air Force. That branch of the service was not created until after the war. The men belonged to its precursor, the Army Air Forces.
