Quarterback Tim Tebow signs with Broncos

Share

Tim Tebow missed some practices, but none that counted before agreeing to a contract with the Denver Broncos on Thursday.

The two-time national champion from Florida and 25th pick in the NFL draft missed the first three workouts for rookies and selected veterans while his agent, Jimmy Sexton, and General Manager Brian Xanders hammered out a deal. It’s worth $11.25 million over five years, with $8.7 million of that guaranteed.

ESPN reported that Tebow could earn as much as $33 million over the course of the contract.

Tebow is expected to practice Friday morning, the final session before training camp begins in earnest Sunday with a full squad in full pads.

The signing of Tebow leaves top pick Demaryius Thomas, a wide receiver out of Georgia Tech, as the only unsigned member of Denver’s draft class.

The Broncos announced Tebow’s signing after workouts Thursday, and Coach Josh McDaniels wasn’t available for comment.

Owens at Bengals camp

A few thousand fans showed up in Georgetown, Ky., for Terrell Owens’ first practice with the Cincinnati Bengals, who signed him to a one-year deal Thursday, then got a glimpse of what the 36-year-old receiver has left.

“He hasn’t slowed down,” quarterback Carson Palmer said. “He’s a guy that’s kind of ageless and he’s still got a lot left in the tank.”

Haynesworth fails conditioning test

Albert Haynesworth failed his conditioning test Thursday and was not allowed to take part in the Washington Redskins’ practice Thursday. The Redskins told the two-time All-Pro defensive lineman that he had to take the test because he skipped the entire offseason workout program. Washington Coach Mike Shanahan said Haynesworth will have to take the test every day until he passes.

Young won’t be suspended

Commissioner Roger Goodell said he has decided not to suspend Tennessee Titans quarterback Vince Young over a tussle at a Dallas strip club in June.

“And at this stage, based on the facts that we have, I see no reason for any kind of disciplinary action. I did have a good conversation with Vince, however, about his responsibility as an NFL player. He needs to avoid putting himself in that kind of position,” Goodell said.

Young was cited for misdemeanor assault after a fight last month that was caught on surveillance video. He quickly apologized and said he hoped he wouldn’t be suspended because he owned up to his mistake.
