Kevin Kolb to start at quarterback for Eagles

Kevin Kolb will make his second straight start in place of the injured Michael Vick when the Philadelphia Eagles host Atlanta on Sunday.

Eagles Coach Andy Reid said Vick practiced Friday for the first time since suffering a rib cartilage injury on Oct. 3. There’s a chance Vick will be the backup quarterback against his former team.

Kolb began the season as the starter but lost his job after suffering a concussion in Week 1 because Vick was sensational in his absence. Vick was the NFC offensive player of the month for September.

Kolb led the Eagles to a 27-24 win at San Francisco last week. He completed 21 of 31 passes for 253 yards and one touchdown.

Favre questionable for Sunday

With an NFL-record streak of 289 regular-season starts on the line, Brett Favre is listed as questionable for Minnesota’s game Sunday against Dallas.

Favre had limited practice this week for the Vikings while trying to rest his ailing right elbow, which has been bothered by tendinitis.

Coach Brad Childress said Friday that he would give his quarterback the 50-50 designation on the injury report and that a final decision on Favre’s status would be made just before the Cowboys game.

Saints without Thomas again

New Orleans Saints leading rusher Pierre Thomas will miss his third straight game on Sunday in Tampa Bay while he continues to rehabilitate a left ankle sprain.

Thomas says he still feels a little pain when he jogs or tries to make a lateral cut, but he also is pleased that the swelling has gone down.

Thomas accounted for 280 total yards from scrimmage and one touchdown rushing in the Saints’ first three games.

Packers’ Rodgers looks ready

Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is practicing for the second straight day and appears ready to start in Sunday’s home game against Miami.

Rodgers went through the full workout Friday, a day after he was cleared to return to practice on a limited basis after a concussion last weekend.

Coach Mike McCarthy says Rodgers is ready to go and he expects the Pro Bowl player to play Sunday. The team lists him as probable on the injury report.

Campbell to start for Raiders

Jason Campbell will start at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders this week against San Francisco in place of the injured Bruce Gradkowski.

Coach Tom Cable said Gradkowski threw a few balls Friday for the first time since injuring his right shoulder last week against San Diego and will be questionable for the game. Cable says that if Gradkowski feels good during warmups Sunday, he could be the backup to Campbell.

Jets’ Revis got speeding ticket

New York Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis acknowledged that he was ticketed for speeding while driving to the team’s facility for a meeting before practice Thursday.

The Jets confirmed that the star player received a ticket for speeding — he says he was going 80 mph in a 40-mph zone — and careless driving on Eisenhower Parkway in Livingston, N.J.

Running back Chris Johnson, who was given Thursday off to rest his sore thigh, practiced fully for the Tennessee Titans…. Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, who hasn’t played since injuring his throwing shoulder in the season opener against Chicago, was upgraded to questionable on the team’s injury report…. The NFL has fined Cincinnati’s Terrell Owens $5,000 for violating the league’s ban on using social media shortly before games. Owens acknowledged that he broke the rule by sending out a message on Twitter an hour before Cincinnati’s 24-21 loss to Tampa Bay on Sunday…. A sprained plant-foot ankle incurred during practice could keep Giants kicker Lawrence Tynes out of the lineup Sunday against the Lions. Tynes injured the left ankle on a kickoff during special-teams drills…. The NFL rejected Antwan Odom’s appeal and suspended the Bengals defensive end four games for violating its policy on performance-enhancing substances. Odom was suspended before the start of the season but appealed, hoping to have the suspension reduced or eliminated…. Injured Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace are not practicing, making it almost certain that rookie Colt McCoy will start Sunday in Pittsburgh.
