Darrelle Revis ends his holdout, agrees to new deal with the Jets

Darrelle Revis and the New York Jets agreed to a new contract, ending the All-Pro cornerback’s holdout a week before the team’s season opener.

The team announced the agreement in principle early Monday but released no contract terms.

Revis’ holdout began Aug. 1, when the team reported for training camp in Cortland, N.Y. He was scheduled to make $1 million in the fourth year of his six-year rookie deal, but has said he wants to become the league’s highest-paid cornerback.

The New York Daily News reported Sunday night that Coach Rex Ryan flew to Revis’ home in South Florida over the weekend to try to help get a deal done.

The Jets open their season next Monday night at home against Baltimore.

New York also released veteran fullback Tony Richardson, wide receiver David Clowney and running back Chauncey Washington ( USC).

The Jets also claimed wide receiver Patrick Turner, a former USC player who was waived by Miami.

Allen out in Miami

Miami Dolphins cornerback Will Allen was put on injured reserve, ending any hope the 10th-year player had of returning from mid-August knee surgery.

Allen started all 43 games he spent with the Dolphins over the last four years.

Seahawks moves

The roster shuffle of the Seattle Seahawks continued with three more players being released, including offensive lineman Mansfield Wrotto.

Along with Wrotto, Seattle let go of center Steve Vallos and safety Kevin Ellison (USC).

Raiders go young

The Oakland Raiders already have a new quarterback this season in Jason Campbell. Now they have a new starting center too.

Rookie Jared Veldheer spent nearly all of training camp practicing at left tackle but beat out incumbent Samson Satele after moving to center and will be in the starting lineup when the Raiders open the season Sunday at Tennessee.

Veldheer, a third-round draft pick who played at Division II Hillsdale College in Michigan, is Oakland’s fourth different opening day starting center in four years.

LeGarrette Blount, the controversial former Oregon star running back who had signed as an undrafted free agent, was released by the Tennessee Titans.... The Houston Texans released linebacker Danny Clark and claimed linebacker David Nixon and cornerback Jamar Wall off waivers. Clark, a 10-year veteran, signed with Houston as a free agent in May, a few days after linebacker Brian Cushing was suspended for the first four games of the season for violating the league’s drug policy.... The Cincinnati Bengals released second-string quarterback J.T. O’Sullivan, who struggled during the exhibition season. O’Sullivan appeared in three games last season as Carson Palmer’s backup. Palmer’s younger brother, Jordan, is the third-string quarterback. The Bengals replaced O’Sullivan — at least temporarily — by claiming quarterback Dan LeFevour off waivers from Chicago.
