Wire Reports

Coach Mike Shanahan says Albert Haynesworth will be with the Washington Redskins when they open the season Sunday.

Shanahan addressed Haynesworth’s status Wednesday, a day after multiple reports said the Redskins were in discussions with the Tennessee Titans about trading the two-time All-Pro defensive lineman.

Shanahan did not deny the trade talks, but he did his best to put to rest any chance of Haynesworth getting moved this week.

Shanahan would not say whether Haynesworth would play Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

Cowboys hurting

The Cowboys could be without two key members of their offensive line for the opener, as left guard Kyle Kosier and right tackle Marc Colombo both missed practice Wednesday.

Colombo was expected to miss two to four weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on his right knee in mid-August.

Kosier has a strained medial collateral ligament in his right knee. He is three weeks into a recovery that was slated to take four to six weeks.

Brady mum on talks

Tom Brady approached the mass of reporters waiting to talk to him and asked, “Who wants to talk football?”

They wanted to talk contract. Whether he liked it or not, Brady faced questions Wednesday about entering the final year of his current deal. With the season opener a few days away and work being done toward a contract extension, the New England Patriots quarterback provided few details.

No, he said, he hadn’t signed a new contract.

Yes, he loves playing for the Patriots, has an outstanding relationship with owner Robert Kraft and owes it to the team to focus on football.

Brady is scheduled to earn $6.5 million this season as part of his six-year, $57.3-million contract.

Phillips to start

After missing most of last season, safety Kenny Phillips is back in the New York Giants’ starting lineup.

Phillips, who underwent microfracture surgery on his left knee last September, worked with the Giants’ first team in preparation for the opener against Carolina.
