In L.A. this week: Uggie and other non-canine author appearances

With nearly every bizarre reality show star getting a book deal lately, it’s no surprise that celebrated canine Uggie, a star of last year’s Oscar winner, “The Artist,” has published a memoir, “Uggie: My Story,” by Wendy Holden. The 60-year-old (in human terms) Jack Russell terrier will be making an appearance Friday at a paw print book signing at Barnes & Noble in Santa Monica. Perhaps the most famous pet memoir since presidential pooch Millie told her tale of life in the White House in 1992, Uggie’s story, filled with plenty of name-dropping, details his rise from puppy-hood to movie stardom.

It’s also a big week for Los Angeles Times reporters, past and present, promoting their books. Starting on Wednesday at 7 p.m., Joe Mozingo will be at Vroman’s in Pasadena discussing and signing “The Fiddler on Pantico Run,” which is based on his 2010 three-part series about his quest to find his family’s lost roots, which he traced to Africa.

Also on Wednesday, J.R. Moehringer, Pultizer Prize winner in 2000 for feature writing, will be signing copies of his novel “Sutton,” based on real-life bank robber Willie Sutton, at Warwicks at 7:30 p.m. After penning his memoir, “The Tender Bar,” in 2005, Moehringer collaborated with Andre Agassi on the tennis star’s 2009 bestselling memoir, “Open.”

On Friday, former crime reporter and author Miles Corwin (“Kind of Blue,” “Midnight Alley”)
will discuss downtown Los Angeles as a literary setting at the Last Bookstore at 1:30 p.m.
