Regulators probe possible defects in Ram trucks, Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV

Federal safety regulators have opened a safety investigation into Chrysler-built pickup trucks and SUVs.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it has received 12 complaints about rear wheels locking up in 2009 through 2010 model year Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks.

Eight of the complaints reported wheels locking up at speeds of 35 mph or greater. Some drivers said they lost control of their vehicles and at least one apparently crashed into a concrete barrier.

Regulators also are looking into reports of leaks in the power steering hose of 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee sport-utility vehicle. Dripping power steering fluid presents a fire risk, NHTSA said.
