Grammy noms! What’s in stars for Starz? RIP Dave Brubeck.

The Skinny: Was it a “Modern Family” rerun Wednesday night or did my DVR fail me? Someone let me know, please. Thursday’s headlines include a look at the Grammy nominations, questions about the future of pay cable channel Starz and an appreciation of Dave Brubeck.

Daily Dose: Today we dip into some Page Six-style news. Company Town Editor Claudia Eller was at Barney’s on Wednesday on the elevator when she noticed that the couple riding with her looked familiar. Turned out it was Bruce Springsteen with wife Patti Scialfa. Reports Eller: “He looked so hot.”

Grammys go on without Adele. Nominations for the Grammy Awards were announced Wednesday night and Fun. and Frank Ocean will likely be having a good time at the awards show in February. Also doing well were Jay-Z, the Black Keys, Kanye West and Mumford & Sons. Continuing a trend that started around the early 1990s, I have none of the releases of the top nominees. What’s in the stars for Starz? Having been outbid by Netflix for rights to movies from Walt Disney Co., speculation is swirling about what the future holds for the pay-TV channel Starz. A unit of Liberty Media, Starz is being spun off into a publicly traded company. But some media analysts don’t think it will be a standalone for long. The question is who will buy it and for how much. A look at Starz from the Wall Street Journal.

Hungry for more. Having landed rights to movies from Walt Disney Co., Netflix wants more. The online entertainment company’s next target may be Sony Pictures, whose deal with pay-TV channel Starz is up in 2016. Netflix executive Ted Sarandos even suggested the company could make a run at Warner Bros. Given Warner Bros.’ relationship with sister pay channel HBO, that may be wishful thinking. This could be good. “Beavis and Butt-Head” creator and “King of the Hill” co-creator Mike Judge is developing a sitcom about Silicon Valley, according to Deadline Hollywood. Anyone who’s seen Judge’s underappreciated movie “Office Space” knows this is an area that he can shine in.

Lots of drama. The TV season is a few months old but aleady development for next season is picking up steam. Vulture takes a look at what new dramas are in the works. There are some familiar titles in the mix, including a version of “Beverly Hills Cop” at CBS and yet another attempt at “Wonder Woman.”
