Bradley Cooper on going commando to White House: ‘a nightmare’

Security wasn’t the only thing that was tight at the White House State Dinner last week. Just ask Bradley Cooper, who found himself going commando for what could be described as a work-related reason.

He explained it all to Ellen DeGeneres in an interview broadcast Monday.

Turns out Cooper has been gaining weight for a new role and has put on 15 pounds in the last four weeks, so “nothing fits,” he said. That was something he apparently forgot when he dusted off his Golden Globes tux — the Globes were five weeks ago — packed it and headed to D.C. for the dinner honoring French President Francois Holland.

“I’m getting dressed, like 10 minutes before I’m supposed to go, and literally the pants go up to like, here,” he said, gesturing around his mid-thigh as he pressed his knees together and mimed pulling up his pants.

“I just started laughing, actually. This is hilarious. I’m going to meet the president. So I had to go commando, No. 1, ‘cause there was no room at all,” Cooper explained.

The audience exploded into hoots and hollers, with some no doubt wondering: “Boxers or briefs?”

Cooper then explained, and even demonstrated, the challenges of the evening, which he said was made up of a lot of standing up to greet dignitaries, and then sitting down again — a task made nearly impossible by the tightness of his tux pants.

“It was a nightmare. But I made it through,” he said, even if the pants were, as he blurted, “crazytown tight.”

We’ll take a ticket to crazytown, then... You can watch Bradley explain it all in the video above.
