Kat Von D and Deadmau5 split; cheating alleged and denied

Share

Kat Von D and Deadmau5 have broken up publicly, with the tattoo artist breaking the news Wednesday on Twitter and the Canadian electronic-music producer following up Thursday in much more detail on Facebook.

“Cheating on your loved one is the most hurtful thing one could do. I hate to have to admit, that this relationship is indeed over,” she wrote. “Onward and upward.” That after posting “Man, I’m a fool.”

The couple got engaged in December via Twitter, and back in April were talking about having a wedding with an “underwater” theme inspired by the 1926 H.P. Lovecraft story “The Call of Cthulhu.” Alas, those plans will have to go back on the shelf.

While Kat might be especially sensitive to infidelity — given her past with Jesse James, can you blame her? — her ex wanted to give his side of the story, which he said included no third party when they were together.

“Kat and I split in November and I moved back home to Toronto,” Deadmau5 wrote on Facebook in what he said would be his only statement on the matter. “During this time, while we were broken up, I did have relations with another woman. Following that, Kat and I reconciled and I acknowledged being intimate with another person while we were estranged.

“We did move past those issues and I proposed to Kat in mid-December. At the end of June, it was clear that the relationship was not working and we mutually ended the engagement. I was not, at any point, unfaithful to Kat during our time together.”

He said he didn’t want to go “tit for tat with these kinds of pronouncements,” but added that folks who expressed concern deserved “a more complete understanding” of what had gone down in the relationship.

Only one question: Will this be an on-again, off-again engagement like she had with James, or is it over for good? Share your thoughts in comments.
