Kanye West’s advice to Kim Kardashian: ‘Don’t listen if someone’s going to say that’s too sexy for a mom’

In her new photo spread for GQ magazine, Kim Kardashian brings the hot-mama concept to a new level.

“I did work like this [in the past],” she said Tuesday night on the penthouse balcony at Chateau Marmont, “but maybe not with the confidence I have now.”

Mrs. Kanye West set the 10th anniversary of the mag’s “Sex, Love & Madness” issue — which has her on the cover and includes moody, sexy, flesh-baring photos by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott inside — as her post-baby goal, and in doing so, busted some expectations about what a mom-bod looks like. Think moody lingerie, bedroom eyes, voluptuous NSFW breasts and, of course, that backside.

“Once I got the call, I was like, ‘OK, I can’t go and embarrass myself.’ I don’t want to have all these angles I don’t feel good about myself in. I want to go there and feel confident and feel good, and I was a few weeks shy of goal weight, but close enough, to where I was like, ‘I did it; I lost 60 pounds,’ ” she said.

Training, more training and following the Atkins diet “to a T” got her to where she wanted to be after the December birth of son Saint.

“There’s something that when you go through all the body changes — I’m not a pretty pregnant person. I gain a lot of weight, and when you get there on the other side and you see a beautiful baby and you have lost all the weight, you feel so good about yourself. At least I did,” she said.

Guests from a relatively small list joined Kardashian at the GQ bash for a balmy evening overlooking Los Angeles, surrounded by sexy framed photos from the magazine shoot.

Kris Jenner was on hand, of course, welcoming Chrissy Teigen with a hug like she was a fifth Kardashian-Jenner daughter. John Legend was full of affection for his new-mom wife, and Kourtney Kardashian rocked a white micro-mini that set off her tiny frame well.

Among the others on hand for drinks, music and hors d’oeuvres: Kevin Hart, Dave Chappelle, Russell Westbrook, DeMarco Murray, Jordan Clarkson, Karrueche Tran, Christina Milian, Omarion, Kelly Rohrbach, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Diplo and Russell Simmons.

“My husband gives me so much confidence,” Kardashian said. “He’s like, ‘Do you. Be you. ... Don’t listen if someone’s going to say, ‘Oh, that’s too sexy for a mom.’ Just do what makes you feel happy and confident.’ ”

I think people underrate her as a businesswoman, as an entrepreneur, as a brand, even as a beauty.

— Jim Nelson, GQ magazine editor

There’s a throwback vibe to the photos, shot over 15 hours in New York, including one distinctly non-mommy image in which the famous nondrinker and nonsmoker wears lingerie under a leather jacked with a cigarette dangling from her pouty lips.

“It was Marcus’ [cigarette],” Kardashian explained. “I’ve never smoked. I had to hold a cigarette for one other shoot, one time in Paris, and they said take a puff and have the smoke blow in your face, and I was like, ‘I don’t even know how to do that.’

“So I held it for two seconds and it started catching up to my fingers, and I was like, ‘You guys, I can’t.’ It’s a role you play.”

The reality TV mogul was chosen for the magazine’s July cover, editor Jim Nelson said, because she “has just persevered and elevated and showed her grit. ... I respect that. She’s got a great strong will. She’s fierce.”

Kardashian and West, he said, embody the new American Dream. Nelson chose a female writer because he thought she’d consider Kardashian from a fresh perspective and take the star seriously.

“I think people underrate her as a businesswoman, as an entrepreneur, as a brand, even as a beauty,” he said.
